Windows 10 Support is Ending: Why You Should Upgrade Now

Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will no longer receive support after October 14, 2025. This means if you're still using Windows 10 after this date, you won't get any security updates or technical support, leaving your business and its systems exposed to cyber threats and potentially affecting your compliance with security certifications.

Why Should You Upgrade?

  • Stay Secure: Probably the most important reason is security. Without updates, Windows 10 devices will become vulnerable to cyber-attacks and emerging threats, increasing your risk of data breaches.
  • Compliance and Certification: Cyber Essentials and similar certifications require the use of fully supported operating systems. This ensures that vendors produce regular fixes for vulnerabilities, you can install them within a 14 day window. Using Windows 10 after the support ends could mean losing certification status.
  • Avoid Extra Costs: Delaying an upgrade could lead you to pay for expensive extended support agreements from Microsoft and your MSP. This support is provided for a limited period but comes at a premium. If you continue to run windows 10, having  extended support will be the only way to remain compliant.

Benefits of Upgrading to Windows 11

Windows 11 offers improved security, better performance, and a more user-friendly experience:

  • Better Security: Of course being on the latest operating system provides better security and regular updates. It includes features like secure boot and advanced protection against ransomware.
  • Integrated AI Assistant: Windows 11 comes with the integrated Copilot AI - improving productivity for day to day activities.
  • Improved User Experience: Easier and more efficient tools to help your business run smoothly.

Limitations and Requirements of Windows 11

Unfortunately upgrading to Windows 11 requires meeting certain hardware specifications, which may affect some businesses if you are running Windows 10 on older hardware:

TPM 2.0 Requirement: Windows 11 requires Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0. Older hardware may not support this requirement without upgrades.

CPU Compatibility: Windows 11 has specific CPU requirements, limiting support to newer generation processors. Older PCs may need hardware upgrades or replacements.

Perform System Checks: Microsoft provides a free tool called the PC Health Check app to determine if your current PC meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11. This tool checks critical components such as your processor, RAM, storage, TPM version, and Secure Boot capability. You can get guidance and download the PC Health Check app directly from

How to Upgrade Easily

  • Check Compatibility: Make sure your devices and software can run Windows 11.
  • Plan Ahead: Set up a clear plan for upgrading, including potential hardware replacements and staff training.
  • Test First: Make sure your key business applications still work after the upgrade.
  • Roll Out: Upgrade gradually or in groups to avoid business disruptions.
